“Believe in them until you believe in you”-Nancy May
In preparation for the writing of My Wish, I interviewed Nancy May, a dear friend of Bhante Sujatha’s. Years ago, Nancy walked away from the corporate life to become herself. Now she is a yoga instructor who leads meditation and yoga retreats all over the world.
I asked her how she did it. How did she get the nerve to walk away from the corporate life and establish herself as a yoga instructor? And then, how did she create the retreats in places like Costa Rica, California and Belize?
She had a simple, beautiful answer:
Believe in them, until you believe in you.
Bhante Sujatha told me that I could do it. He said he believed in me. I have wonderful students, who encouraged me to go for it. When I left the corporate life, a dear friend offered me unconditional support.
And I made up my mind to just believe them. If I couldn’t believe in myself, I could believe in these people. I respected them more than I respected myself. I just believed in them until I believed in me. Trust me. I was filled with doubts. I thought no one would pay that much to spend time with me on a retreat. I never thought I’d really make it as a yoga instructor. I thought work had to be really hard.
So I chose to just trust, absolutely, that the people who said it was possible, were right. “
So let’s dust off our dreams, and surround ourselves with people or at least one person who believes we can do it. Then, let’s put our faith in them, and after some time, with lots of practice, we’ll have faith in ourselves. With that, of course, we can do anything.
